the heart…

“One must look with the heart…”

I’ve had a whole lot of reasons to think about and love my friends lately… dealing with some hard times, starting exciting new chapters in their lives, taking the risk to embrace changes, finding happiness, etc.

They are some pretty great people…

(Especially positive energy to K who will be taking her board exam tomorrow… good luck!!)

8/30/2009: Blueberry Bread Pudding

Blueberry Bread Pudding, originally uploaded by ellajphillips.

After seeing Julie & Julia yesterday… I felt the need to cook. I spent the bulk of the day either cooking or reading recipes or thinking about food. I made bruschetta and linguine with alfredo sauce and baked banana bread and blueberry bread pudding.

This early fall weather is perfect for cooking and baking… I’d be perfectly content to spend all my time in the kitchen.

Cookies, originally uploaded by ellajphillips.

Fall weather has descended early and I love it. After brunch today, I took the opportunity to bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies. I love baking- it eases my mind and makes me happy.

After baking, I had a movie date with one of my boyfriends to see Julie & Julia. Reaffirmed that love of baking and cooking! It was such a great movie, truly a feel good movie. Filled with laughter and amazing food.

The friendship that at moments is so incredibly crystal clear why it exists in my life and why it is so important.

Awful picture, but I barely had time to think about my camera. Event finished. It was good. The usual “day of” stress, but it turned out well.

Good to have Dan, Soos, & Bodie there. And my parents! I’m glad they took the trip into the city for it. Nice be supported!

8/26/2009: Reading

Reading, originally uploaded by ellajphillips.

Decompressing after long day at work. Tomorrow night is the event, so hopefully things will ease up a little after that. The event, I think, is going to be a bigger success than I anticipated. Plus, a handful of friends are opting to come and enjoy the event- that makes me smile.

8/25/2009: Back to School

Back to School, originally uploaded by ellajphillips.

Someone’s back to school… second day of teaching. Lots of time to be devoted to grading and planning and other school stuff.

The cat wishes she’d just stay home with him all day.

8/24/2009: Monday

Monday, originally uploaded by ellajphillips.

New week. A busy and promised stressful one. I opted to end Monday by intentionally taking time to myself. Favorite wine, Sunday crossword which I didn’t get a chance to work on yesterday, the book I’m reading, and my deck with a little bit of sunshine.

8/23/2009: Awareness

Years, originally uploaded by ellajphillips.

I haven’t taken this bracelet off more than a handful of times in the last 4 years. I have it off right now while the new ink heals. It’s weird not wearing it.

It’s the Until There’s a Cure bracelet for HIV/AIDS (http://www.until.org/). My mom has worn the bracelet on & off for years. Another of my friends also wears the same bracelet.

My senior thesis was about the “Changing Face of AIDS” (how photography changed from the 80′s thru the 90′s). My first job in Chicago was working at a residency for people with AIDS. HIV/AIDS awareness is something that’s important to me.

8/22/2009: Inked

Nearly complete, originally uploaded by ellajphillips.

New ink with a whole lot of Chicago love. Design by Vic Sanchez (http://method606.com/m606/), ink by Mat Moreno at Insight Studios (http://www.insightstudiosonline.com/). I love Chicago… it’s home; it has been for years and will be for many more years… I wanted ink to represent that.

Check my flickr photostream for the completed piece.
